Lessons from the book of Jonah!!

A common misconception is that the story of Jonah is one better suited for children...far from it!!

Here is what I learned as I studied this short but powerful book.

  1. Lesson #1: Godly Christian people will feel fear and might even try to hide from the calling of God.
  2. Lesson #2: God will make sure that you do what He has intended for you to do.
  3. Lesson #3:God will create situations-even uncomfortable ones-to make you understand His greatness and his Mercy.
  4. Lesson #4: God will use your biggest hurdle to be a part of your biggest ministry.
  5. Lesson #5: If God called you to do something, He will always be there to back you up.
  6. Lesson #6: God wants to save people and He wants to use you to do this.

Jonah was a prophet, a man who loved God-but he was still a man and in his humanity he felt fear when God called him to do something that he felt was dangerous and unrealistic. The Bible says that he flees as far away as he could in hopes that God would forget him, But the Bible also says that God creates a storm and brings towards him a great fish that will serve him not only as transportation back to the land that he needed to be in but also as the hiding place where he calls out to God in repentance, remorse and humility. Jonah calls out to the Lord and he hears his cries.

Like He did with Jonah, God calls you because He loves you and because He wants to use you to spread the good news of His salvation. Be brave and trust in The One you serve-stop running away from your calling and from committing with Christ! After all, He is still the God of the storms and of the big fish!!! :) many blessings to you!!

Until we meet again, may you continue to be the salt and the light of the earth.
