Racing for the American Dream

Just thinking

Routine living

hours and hours

of nonstop working

tired of running 

on the verge of breaking

going after something

that may fill the hole in the wallet 

resolve the problem

bring solutions to the now

speed-walking on a treadmill

but going nowhere

not knowing that I have just signed-up for the race called "life"

A number was stamped on the back of my shirt

and with the sound of the morning alarm gunshot

I goooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

run run run

but where am I going? 

Or better yet, when does the race end? 

like drones

I see others around me racing

some more tired than others

Some ready and others distraught

but all racing for the American Dream

the Apple Pie

Time to wake up and think

STOP just STOP

priorities juggle before me

like the colorful balls of a circus

floating beautifully in the air

trying to find its rhythm.

but don't drop the ball

an entire stadium of people

stare at the juggler

expecting the next best act

but this is not a show!!

or is it?!

shhhhh

stay quiet and listen

to the wheels turning in your head

trying to plan ahead

feeling the heavy weight on you shoulders instead

heart racing & pounding again

What is this?!?!

 In the midst of my silent chaos

I hear a soft knock

"I stand at the Door"says my Lord

I desperately open and my friend 

now enters my home

He pulls a chair at the table and sits

B-R-E-A-T-H-E

My thoughts are flooded with goodness and I think

Surely God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid. 

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, 

to the ones who SEEK HIM.

 HE says to me

PEACE I leave with you; my peace I give you. 

I do not give to you as the world gives. 

Do not let your hearts be troubled 

and DO NOT BE AFRAID. 

R-E-S-T

 Its Monday morning and

the alarm gunshot goes off again

I put on my running shoes and off I go briefcase in hand

this time

I'm running for HIM

#running with purpose

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.…
